Nigerian piracy in the Gulf of Guinea

31 August 2018

We are pleased to have sponsored a whitepaper by EOS Risk Group focusing on Nigerian piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

The report analyses the factors behind the regional rise of ‘petro-piracy’, the hijacking of oil tankers for their cargo. This is following a sharp decline in such attacks in recent years; hijacking for oil theft has now re-emerged as a significant threat in the Gulf of Guinea.

Nigerian pirates are increasingly venturing beyond the confines of domestic waters, as they have also carried out attacks this year within the exclusive economic zones of Benin, Ghana and Cameroon. The report assesses the nature of this threat, the factors behind it and the locations most at risk.

JLT’s Specialty’s Security Risks, Kidnap and Ransom team can help firms to manage and transfer the risks posed by maritime piracy.
