Energy insurance market movers

With changes constantly taking place in the insurance market, we provide a short summary of the key market movers and people that have recently been in the news.

  • Mike Makowski (previously in insurer roles at Oilfield Offshore Underwriters and Sovag, and broking roles at Cooper Gay, Aon, Marsh, HSBC and Jardine Insurance Brokers) has joined Energy reinsurance start-up Celebrus Risk, a Russian-owned MGA focused on building a book of upstream and downstream energy risks
  • Michael Stanton has been promoted to head of upstream at Zurich London, a role that has remained vacant since Alison Clarke left
  • Mark Nunn has joined Markel Singapore from Marsh Singapore
  • Tim Foister has left Markel Singapore to return to Markel London
  • Eric Boquist is joining Arch Houston, from Travellers, to write a primary casualty book on an admitted basis, with the aim to support business written by Arch in London
  • Alex Barnes who was to step down as Head of Energy at Beazley has now agreed to continue in that role
  • Kelan Hunt who is currently Head of Energy at Chaucer has been promoted to Head of Energy, Marine and Aviation
  • Alison Clarke has resigned from Fidelis where she held the position of Executive Head of Speciality, to pursue other opportunities (we are not sure yet whether these are in insurance or not - watch this space if they are)
  • Robin Richards, an International Casualty underwriter at Zurich has resigned to join to Berkeley Offshore
  • Tim Woodhouse who left Axis where he wrote Political Violence /Sabotage & Terrorism risk, is joining MGA Dual
  • Joe Battle has been appointed CEO of Antares where he held the role of active underwriter
  • Clive Washbourn has stood down as head of Beazley’s marine division for personal reasons, and has been succeeded by Tim Turner. Washbourn is to continue to provide Beazley the benefit of his expertise in underwriting and business development
  • Luis Prato has been appointed Regional Head of Energy, UK at Axa XL following their merger and is the Insurance Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2003. Steve Hawkins is Global Head of Upstream
  • Mark Mackay has left by mutual consent. Klaus Hoffmann has been appointed Regional Head of Energy Europe
  • Victor Peignet has decided to retire from Scor for personal reasons after 35 years with the group. Jean-Paul Conoscente has succeeded him as Chief Executive of Scor Global P&C
