Corporate Social Responsibility

JLT Specialty are proud to be partnering with the Alzheimer’s Society since February 2017. So far, JLT Specialty have raised £113,000 to assist them with their vital work in combating dementia.

Improving the awareness and understanding of dementia is needed to decrease discrimination and to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and also their caregivers.

Most people associate dementia with memory loss, but the condition affects people in a wide variety of ways. That might include changes in behaviour, confusion and disorientation, but also difficulty communicating, problems judging speeds and distances and even cravings for particular foods. Everyone’s experience of dementia is different.

While some treatments can help people to live with their symptoms there are no treatments that slow or stop diseases like Alzheimer’s. This means that the diseases will continue to get worse over time unless new treatments can be found quickly.

Dementia itself is not a disease it’s actually caused by lots of different diseases; it is not an inevitable part of getting older

  • Whilst 1 in 6 people in the UK over 80 have dementia, there are also 40,000 people under 65, and dementia can begin as young as 30 years old
  • Dementia is the leading cause of death in women in the UK and the third leading cause for men
  • Nearly half of people with dementia go undiagnosed and worldwide there are 7.7 million new cases diagnosed every year, and by 2030 there is expected to be over 75.6 million worldwide suffering with dementia
  • Though there is no cure for dementia right now, there are things people can do to help to reduce the risk of developing it. Things like regular physical exercise, a healthy diet, and cutting out smoking all heighten the chances of not developing the condition.

We look forward to working with the Alzheimer’s Society to support their initiatives by fundraising and volunteering over the course of the year.

JLT are proud to support the Lloyds Military Network. The Network was formed in October 2014 with three primary aims:

  • To provide a network for ex-service and reservist personnel working within the insurance industry;
  • To support and promote the charitable works of the Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund and The Royal British Legion Lloyd’s and City Branch;
  • To assist –ex-service and reservist personnel in transitioning into the insurance industry, via the Lloyd’s Military Network Placement programme
  • Founded in October 2014 The Lloyd’s Military Network (LMN) is a formalisation of the ex-military and serving reservists operating within the Lloyd’s community and Insurance Industry. In the four years that the LMN has been running, over 30 ex-military have benefitted from the placement programme with approximately 80% going on to secure full time employment within the industry


Their mission is to enable ex-military and serving reservist personnel to realise their full potential. Our commitment is to bridge the knowledge and experience gap for individuals leaving the military who have an active interest in employment in the insurance industry.

Assisting those looking to transition into the Insurance industry by providing a platform for them to gain advice, experience and direction.

It is widely recognised that ex-military personnel have valuable life experience and relevant skill sets to be an asset to the insurance industry, however, many employers do not want to take the “risk” of employing individuals who have no insurance experience. This programme is designed to address that “risk”.

The LMN placement programme is the first internship programme of its kind specifically focussed on providing many employers with recognised ex-military talent who will become assets to all participating sponsors.
